GEMINI: The Love of Learning

This is so creepy and I love it.

This part 3 of a 12-part series. It’s a little meditation on understanding the signs based on the Archetype.

Gemini represents the movement and flow of information in the world. Continuing our seasonal analogy, Gemini is the transition between the fullness of Taurus and Cancer’s initiation into Summer. It’s a time of intense activity where life interacts in order to learn about its environment.

People with strong Gemini energy don’t stop moving – or talking. There’s a speed and lightness to them as they jump from one thing to the next, making us mere mortals feel like they could take be caught up in a gust of wind and take flight at any minute. Their natural curiosity keeps them on the constant hunt for information, and they pick it up from just about anywhere. As a result, they know a little about a lot, and it’s usually just enough to get others to open up and share additional information for Gemini to collect.

It is also the sign associated with the 3rd house, which represents our early learning environment, including siblings and family members, along with the development of our intelligence. Here we’re using our resources (2nd house) to test our boundaries of our environment. In the Archetype, it represents the ideal way to approach learning, as seen through the qualities and planets associated with it. Gemini is a masculine, mutable, air sign with Mercury as ruler, and Venus, Saturn in triplicity. No planet is exalted or in dishonor, although Sun, Moon, Mars and Jupiter are considered peregrine. So, how should we learn? We should strive to be actively involved in our environment (masculine), yet detached and adaptable as we learn new information (mutable). Mercury is often associated with speed, and that’s because it’s necessary to learn quickly to prevent future harm, especially in youth. Gemini is rational intelligence, gained through mental organization (Saturn) and our connections with others (Venus).

When Gemini’s needs are repressed, they can become manipulative or petulant, stirring up drama to watch the reactions, leading to the “two-faced” reputation of the sign.

Gemini is the love of learning because, ideally, the only thing they expect in exchange for their knowledge is yours. They are the natural teachers, students, and consultants, moving quickly to connect people and information. When we can explore our environment with open curiosity, we gain objectivity and intelligence.
